How to compress a PDF
Reduce the size of a PDF in your browser. Docvel's current compression method rebuilds each page as a JPEG image, so review the output before using it as a final document.
What this compressor does
The tool renders each page and creates a new PDF from compressed JPEG images. This can reduce the size of image-heavy documents, but it can also remove selectable text, links, forms, annotations, fonts, and some metadata. It is best for scans, screenshots, and PDFs where visual size matters more than editable structure.
Steps
- 1Open Compress PDF and choose one PDF file.
- 2Select Compress PDF and wait while the pages are rendered and rebuilt locally.
- 3Download the compressed file and compare its visual quality and size with the original.
Important: check text and links
Do not use the compressed output as the only copy of a contract, form, searchable report, or PDF with important links. Keep the original and open several pages of the result to confirm that text remains legible and the visual quality is acceptable.
Local processing and browser resources
The PDF is processed in your browser rather than uploaded to Docvel. Large or high-resolution PDFs can use significant memory and may take longer to render. Closing other heavy browser tabs can help with large documents.
